The police department is one of the safe havens in Jacksonville. Other locations would include the fire department and hospital. The Safe Haven law was created to provide an alternative to abandonment for parents who can't cope with a newborn.

Parents will remain anonymous and no questions will be asked, they cannot be prosecuted for abandonment. This is an opportunity to leave a baby in a safe place and the entire process is legal and completely private.
